Whenever we build a new site, we establish a Community Benefit Fund to support local good causes throughout the wind farm’s working life. We believe that local people should decide how this money is spent.
Following discussions with local organisations, REG Windpower will donate £50,000 every year of the wind farm’s expected 25-year lifetime to help fund worthwhile projects local to the site. This means we will donate £50,000 per year.
Working with local parishes, we have also agreed to ensure that each local area is guaranteed a fixed proportion of the fund, based on how close they are to the wind farm. This will mean the money is divided fairly.
We have appointed Wadebridge Renewable Energy Network as an independent administrator to operate the fund on our behalf. The first donation will be available in Spring 2016.
Elsewhere in the country, REG Windpower Community Funds have helped volunteers complete a long-running project to rebuild a popular village hall, backed local recycling schemes, assisted Sea Cadets on a Tall Ship sea voyage, and supported efforts to create new play areas for children.
We will post further details as the fund takes shape through guidance from local people. In the meantime, if you have an idea for a project that could benefit from support, please let us know.
