Parishioners have contacted the Parish Council, with concerns over the condition of Deep Lane, (Burlawn to Wadebridge Road). Recent Hedge trimming, appears to have been carried out in an unsatisfactory manner.

""Thanks for the information, I will pass this onto the Highway Safety Inspector and Steward for their information and action.""
The highway
It is an offence under the Highways Act 1980 to deposit objects within the highway that could cause an obstruction or a hazard. The highway includes verges.

what was the use of fighting for a Bus Shelter at Whitecross when unable to use it in wet weather because of parked cars up against it so we have to step into the road to flag the buses down as they Carnot see us or we them all it would take is 2 bollards like the other side of shelter, not only that they park on the pavements obstructing the crossing via the bollards. As this road as now become a motorway its exceedingly dangerous I do have photographs which Cornwall Council asked me for and still haven't done anything about it!!!!
response from Police....
Dear Cllr Jones,
Thank you for your email. I did write a couple of letters back in April, to vehicle owners who were causing a visual obstruction to the shelter (at that time), not the footpath.
Having had no responses and as there were no further complaints, I was under the impression the matter had been resolved until I received an email just over a week ago from Anne Jayne, stating the issues had started again.
As you may be aware, Parking issues are no longer routinely dealt with by Police but rather the Civil Enforcement Officers of Cornwall Council. The overriding issue here seems to be, not the fact vehicles are parked on the grass verge, but rather it is felt that their parking causes an obstruction to the view of the road from those in the bus shelter.
Having spoken to one of the Sgt’s at Bodmin, this is not an issue under ‘obstruction of the highway’. You will no doubt be aware that cars have parked her for many, many years with little or no reported issues. The bus company has some responsibility here in checking the shelter adequately for passengers in which case this would not be a Police matter. Should vehicle be parked on the pavement area, in a way which does cause obstruction to pavement users, then by all means, this would be a matter for us.
I have copied in my supervisor, Sgt Stewart, and should he wish to make any comments regarding this, then I will pass these on to you.
Kind regards
Pete Sobye

Please take care using our narrow lanes. Hedge growth can be quite alarming during June/July. If you own land adjacent the highway, please make sure that dangerous bends and junctions are kept clear of growth. Obviously check for nests before work starts and take precautions, to let traffic know, that you are undertaking work. Wearing Hi Viz jackets, should always be worn and are a sensible precaution. Try and enlist someone to act as look out.
If you are experiencing any problems, please inform our Parish Clerk.

We are now into the leaf season, which brings a number of problems.
The road surface is extremely slippery, which in turn, can cause hazardous situations, especially if driving habits, do not adjust, to road conditions. Please reduce speed and keep a special look out, for livestock and horses.
If your property is adjacent any roadside drains and it is safe to do so, please help the highways, by removing any leaves. The amount of damage caused by blocked drains and associated excess water, is substantial and with limited budgets available, repairs are often delayed or postponed.
If you have any potholes needing urgent attention, please report them to our Parish Clerk, by email or telephone, who will then, pass them on to me, for action.
It is also time, to attend to any roadside hedges and dangerous trees adjacent your property. This is the landowner’s responsibility and liability. Cormac are reluctant to issue enforcement notices and generally have been very helpful in the Parish, by using outside contractors on some lengthy and difficult stretches, but again budgets are tight and will only get worse, as Cornwall Council, fights to remove, another £190 million pounds, over the next 4 years.
Major bridge repairs to Ruthernbridge, will start on the 20th November 2014, with unfortunately lengthy detours and road closure. It’s a pity that those responsible, for the continued damage to this bridge, do not consider the disruption and inconvenience caused, not to mention the cost!
Although not strictly Highways, Bishops Wood will be closed to Public access for the next few months, to enable tree felling. Please do not ignore the warning notices. Felling opens out large areas, which will need to stabilise, trees can fall without warning, even if contractors are not present.
Cllr Andrew Jones.
Highways matters…… Please inform us of any Highways concerns, using the website, contact form.
During August, Cormac will be continuing its patching program, throughout the Parish, using a new hot tarmac process.
Cormac have been informed, of the poor road surface, at Treneague, on the approach to Wadebridge from Burlawn, co ordinates 50.30.28.77N, 4.50.13.13W to 50.30.21.85N, 4.50.25.42W
It’s at this time of year, that roadside hedgerows, need attention. I have included an attachment from Natural England, which highlights the legal responsibilities of landowners (both farmers and householders) and the safety implications of not maintaining adequate sightlines, especially on some of our beautiful, but narrow stretches of road.
Although not strictly in the Parish, we have a major concern with Ruthernbridge.
During the past few years the bridge has been seriously damaged, on a number of occasions.
Cormac, have tried unsuccessfully, to improve the protection, of this listed ancient monument, at considerable expense to the local taxpayer.
Remedial work is due to be carried out in October, which will cause disruption, due to road closure.
If anyone has any information, on how this bridge is being continuingly damaged, both Cormac and the Parish Council would be very interested.
Cllr Andrew Jones, Highways Committee.
